Our History
The proprietor, Arthur Jones was born in Gingin and attended the local school. He turned 18 during WWII and joined the Air Force where he was assigned to the Marine section, stationed in Darwin. As Cox on a sixty footer he sailed out of Darwin rescuing a number of pilots from their sinking craft.
In 1955 he started up his own company as Perth Monumental Works (PMW) with a small office near Karrakatta Cemetery. In 1965 he moved to the current location in Redcliffe.
Established by Arthur Jones in 1955, Perth Monumental Works has provided a large range of custom made monuments in various cemeteries throughout Western Australia.
Our Staff
At present there are six fully qualified stonemason employed by PMW. Some of these stonemasons have overseas qualifications, trained in the UK, Ireland and Italy.
They are highly skilled and able to carve many of our monuments from Italian marble or local granites at our factory in Redcliffe. (Some of our staff have been trained on-site as we usually have an apprentice in training)
Our Equipment
As well as selling imported monuments many are made in our factory. To cut the large blocks of granite PMW has a huge touch-screen operated saw. Once shaped, they are placed on the two-metre long automatic polisher ready for finishing.
Once a monument is taken to the cemetery for installation, staff use a small bobcat type machine, an Avant to assist the installation. This enables staff to take every care in installing the finished product.
